Tristan Cleveland-Thompson is a singer, organist, pianist, and conductor living in St. John´s, Newfoundland. Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Tristan moved to Newfoundland with his partner in 2018, and has since been singing with Projekt Chamber Voices, has sung and assistant conducted QVE, and in 2021 began accompanying the Aurora Women’s Choir in CBS. In recent years Tristan began working as the organist and music director for Cochrane United Church, and he joined the artistic team with Shallaway Youth Choir as an accompanist for their Dolce and Lauda ensembles.
He studied Pipe Organ at the University of Alberta and then moved home to Halifax to pursue a career as a Music Director at Saint David´s Presbyterian Church in downtown Halifax. As their organist and choir director, he oversaw their rehearsals, played for services, and contributed to the RCCO Halifax Chapters collaborative services. Additionally, Tristan sang tenor with the Halifax Camerata Singers for 9 years and served as their Assistant Conductor for 2 seasons, was contracted to sing with King´s Chapel Choir and Chorus, and created an a cappella group known as The 19.
Tristan loves singing and remains a member of the Canadian Chamber Choir, touring with them 2-3 times a year. Starting as their youngest serving member in 2008, Tristan has grown with the choir, and travelled to every province in Canada with them. This fall he can be heard as part of the Tenor section on their new recording Where Waters Meet featuring Sherryl Sewepagaham. The Canadian Chamber Choir is made up of 18-20 singers from across the country that gather in a particular province, to bring Canadian choral music to every size of community.
While music is an essential part to his life, retail management has been his career. Since moving to St. John´s he has worked in management with Starbucks and has worked in various locations, most recently as a Store Manager Trainer.
Tristan is thrilled to join the artistic team as a Collaborative Pianist with Newman Sound, and cannot wait to create music with this inspiring ensemble.
